Is a career in the Public Safety profession for you?

Working in an emergency dispatch center can be a very rewarding career choice for the right person.  Consider that 911 Centers are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Working shifts, holidays and weekends is all part of being involved in any Public Safety profession.

Working conditions include sitting inside for long periods of time at your dispatch station.  The long hours are filled with peaks of stress and valleys of tedium.

911 Telecommunicators are the First Line emergency responders in dealing with an emergency situation. This means that a 911 Telecommunicator must think fast on their feet, take responsibility and make split-second decisions as all part of a days work.  Being able to multi task is the largest requirement in being a 911 Telecommunicator.  The phone rings, someone calls on the radio, a call needs to be paged and the 911 Telecommunicator is expected to complete all the tasks immediately.

Work can be very demanding but also very worthwhile.  The personal gratification of a commitment towards helping the community and being part of the Public Safety team is something Telecommunicators can truly take pride in.
